A Word from Our Teachers …

“Come and hear, all who fear God, and I will tell of what He has done for my soul.”  Those words in Psalm 66 echo through our Titus Women classes each year as our teachers share the story of God at work in their own lives.  Here’s what they’ve been learning as they prepare to teach in just a couple weeks.

Laurie Hovendick (Family Life)

“Make time for the quiet moments as God whispers and the world is loud.”

We have had so many changes in our household over the summer that I have found myself struggling in making those quiet moments, and boy, is the world LOUD!  But God…He stands by me.  He loves me and He delights in me.  He forgives me when I blow it and make mistakes, as a mom, a wife, a friend, a daughter, a sister, a co-worker.

As I prepare for the upcoming semester of Titus, I am amazed at how God orchestrated this study from the very beginning.  He has stirred excitement and given me new eyes to see how the words from Genesis, His words, reveal what it means to be truly loved by God.  He has plans for us, bigger than we can imagine, His love, powerful enough to change our hearts.  If you have ever doubted God’s love for you or felt unworthy of His blessings, join me in studying the lives of Jacob, Esau, Leah, Rachel and Joseph.  What a dysfunctional bunch!  Even though I have read these chapters before, they have come alive through one of the studies I’ve been doing by Liz Curtis Higgs.  I hope to use a few of her videos as she has a great sense of humor and a wonderful way of helping us relate to the very same issues we are experiencing today.

Regardless of what stage of life you are in, it is my hope we can share applications, encourage one another, pray for one another, laugh, maybe share a few tears, as we hold one another accountable and are transformed by the love of God through these lessons.  To discover that because we are a life well-loved by God, we can experience a life well-lived.

Patria Rector (Walk With Me)

What I’ve loved about preparing for this class is that I’ve been reminded over and over again of the sufficiency of Christ

That word sufficient can come in our realm of thought and escape so quickly because it’s difficult to really grasp what something means to be sufficient.  Nothing in this world is actually sufficient.  The visible world overwhelms me with feelings and lies, but by faith, I believe that Christ has really done what He said He would do.  He is not only sufficient, but He is central and supreme.  His righteous life and perfect sacrifice completed everything we need to walk a victorious life in Him and be a light to the world around us.

Studying this in depth has increased my faith so much.  I am in awe of His power and wisdom.  His goodness is infinite and the more I realize it, the more grateful I am, and I love Him more…all because of Him!

Thrive!

May the God of green hope fill you up with joy, fill you up with peace, so that your believing lives, filled with the life-giving energy of the Holy Spirit, will brim over with hope! (Romans 15:13, The Message)

Green hope is what makes us thrive.  It’s not just for those already living successfully who pump out heaping baskets of fruitfulness.  It’s not for the strong and capable among us.  Green hope is for the empty in need of a fresh filling of joy and peace.  It’s for those who believe with their lives not just their words.

This is what green hope looks like ….

Of all the places for a seed to sprout and take root and grow, why here?  There would never be abundant soil, the rain would quickly flow away from this tree, and the heat off the rocks would always be intense.

Of all the places for God to water and nourish a seedling, why not here?   It’s roots would dig deep and be tied to a rock, it would be sheltered from harsh weather, and it would always rely on the day-to-day care of the Master Gardener.

Where has the Master planted you right now?  Are you thriving there?  If you allow Him to tend your heart, invite His care into your life, and trust Him to protect you each day you will brim over with hope.

It’s our desire to lead you into a deeper understanding of God through study in His Word, reflection on His Spirit at work around us, and being part of a community of faithful women who love Jesus and one another.  Thrive and flourish with us at Titus Women this year!
