Everlasting Father

“. . . and His name shall be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.”   Isaiah 9:6

“But to all who did receive Him, who believed in His name, He gave the right to become children of God . . . ”   John 1:12

As many daughters do, my daughter had a special relationship with her Daddy. When she was in her middle-school years, she would sign cards and notes to him with YOD– Your Only Daughter–to remind him of her special place in the family. True to his good nature, plus taking the opportunity for a teachable moment, he signed his cards and notes to her with YEF–your earthly father. This was to not only point out her significance to him, but also to remind her she also had a heavenly father.

A heavenly father. How wonderful to have a heavenly Father! Someone who cares for you as fathers do–protects you, provides for you, teaches you, disciplines you, encourages you, comforts you–and yet is the mighty King and Creator of the universe! It is almost unimaginable! But if you have believed in the name of Jesus and accepted His gift of salvation, you have truly become God’s child with all the rights and privileges of talking to Him at will, being sure of His promises, and accepting your inheritance of eternal life.

Unlike an earthly father who is limited by his humanity, your heavenly father’s love is unconditional and beyond measure. His grace and mercy reach beyond the grave into eternity since He is not bound by time and space. His holy wisdom is available just for the asking.

Imagine your Bible being a series of notes from your heavenly father who has set His will and guidance in black and white for you to refer to at will. And at the bottom of every page imagine in your mind this special signature: With love, YHF!
