Maybe your morning looked a bit rushed.
Maybe every morning looks rushed!
We’ve designed each Tuesday Morning with time for you to catch your breath.
- The coffee will be ready by 8:45
- moms, you can drop your kids off in their rooms
- plan ahead to catch up with a friend, read over your lesson, sit quietly and breathe
- Then, @ 9:15, we’ll get started with worship
And by worship, we don’t just mean singing each week.
Worship means to ascribe worth or honor to another.
We honor God by understanding Who He Is throughout His Word.
It’s an internal posture that brings an external response.
Let me show you what I mean …
Read Psalm 62:5-6 in The Message
God, the one and only—
I’ll wait as long as he says.
Everything I hope for comes from him,
so why not?
He’s solid rock under my feet,
breathing room for my soul,
An impregnable castle:
I’m set for life.
Who is God in this passage?
Exclusive
Worth waiting for & waiting on
Hope
Solid foundation
Breathing room for my soul
A secure & safe place
Satisfaction
Notice with me that this describes God Himself.
All to often, I read a passage like this and turn it back to God with MY requests, asking Him to make my world a better place.
To hurry up and act so I don’t have to wait
To give me hope
To make my way in life stable and steady
To help me live free & breathe deep
To provide a secure and safe place for me to thrive
To satisfy me with …. X Y Z
When my internal posture is self-focused, so is my response.
Hmmm … do you think God just shakes His head, maybe takes a deep breath Himself, wondering YET AGAIN if we’ll ever realize that He is all we need and more than enough?
Read that passage once again … try, really try, not to picture anything but God Himself.
God, the one and only—
I’ll wait as long as he says.
Everything I hope for comes from him,
so why not?
He’s solid rock under my feet,
breathing room for my soul,
An impregnable castle:
I’m set for life.
Friends, the longer I live, the more opportunities I have to realize that I’m NOT God.
I can choose to ask God to make my life better.
I might even tell Him just how to do it and when.
OR
I can trust that He already is my satisfaction.
And that just might be the beginning of authentic worship.
