Majestic God

Summer is officially here. I know the weather doesn’t feel like it today, but give it minute and it will. School is out. Memorial Day Weekend is here. June is right around the corner. Summer is here!

I’ve always loved this particular time of year when summer stretches ahead of us full of endless possibilities. I have almost as much anticipation as a kid right before Christmas. I’ll admit it. I love summer.

I also know that summers can be just as busy and chaotic as the rest of the year. Travel, youth sports, camps, revised schedules, friends and family visiting, lake days, pool days, play dates—the list could go on and on. Mix that busy-ness with the news of tragedies, war, and disease that bombards us each day, and you have the perfect recipe for anxiety and stress.

So, here’s what I want to offer you this summer on the blog—simplicity and rest. Once a week, we will post scripture and a prayer. That’s it. I want this to be a place you can come to get away from the world’s chaos. A place where you can meditate on God’s Word and join us in a corporate prayer. A place where you can focus on God and His character. A place where you can rest.

Grab a cup of your favorite beverage and join me for a few minutes while we sit in His Presence and know Him . . .

O Lord, our Lord, your majestic name fills the earth!
Your glory is higher than the heavens.

You have taught children and infants
    to tell of your strength,
silencing your enemies
    and all who oppose you.

When I look at the night sky and see the work of your fingers—
the moon and the stars you set in place—
what are mere mortals that you should think about them,
human beings that you should care for them?
Yet you made them only a little lower than God
and crowned them with glory and honor.
You gave them charge of everything you made,
putting all things under their authority—
the flocks and the herds
    and all the wild animals,
the birds in the sky, the fish in the sea,
and everything that swims the ocean currents.

O Lord, our Lord, your majestic name fills the earth!

Psalm 8 [NLT]

LORD,

You are Majestic. More so than all your creation. More than the awesome heights of the tallest mountain. More than the mighty roar of the ocean. More than the vastness of the night sky with its myriad of stars. More than the fearful power of a lion or panther in the wild, or the glory of a sunset in all its varied color. You have created all these things and are far above them all. There is nothing You can’t accomplish. Nothing is a surprise to You. You are able to work all things together for good and your glory.

Despite all your glory, all your power, all your majesty . . . you consider us. Not only do you consider us, you love us. In fact, you loved us so much, you pursued us even after we turned from you. You redeemed us and brought us back into a personal, all-knowing, all-loving relationship with you.

Lord, may your glory fill our world today. May we find our peace and comfort in you. May we trust in both your power and your love. Let our hearts rest in you.

Amen.
