The God Who Satisfies

bread1As we begin a new season of classes on Tuesday Mornings, I wonder what has weathered our souls since we last met together? How many of us have been under low clouds that poured on us each day? Who of us experienced sunny skies and rainbows? Has it been a time of drought and doing with less for you as it has been for me?

In this emptying season, God pulled me back to a familiar passage in my ministry life: Isaiah 55.

It was with a whisper that I heard Him speaking, “Come, all you who are thirsty . . . and you who have no money, come, buy and eat!” (v.1).

It was with conviction that I heard Him ask me, “Why spend money on what is not bread, and your labor on what does not satisfy?” (v.2).

Yes, why do I spend my depleted resources from my dry soul on things that cannot possibly satisfy?

Why do I give in to fear at night, spend energy in doubt during the day? Is gawking at Facebook or spinning with busyness ever going to satisfy?

It was with calm assurance that I heard Him call, “Listen, listen to me, and eat what is good, and your soul will delight in the richest of fare. Give ear and come to me; hear me, that your soul may live. I will make an everlasting covenant with you, my faithful love promised to David.” (v.3).

And my eyes floated down the page to my most familiar verses of ministry, the ones that call me to teach and lead in this Tuesday Morning place . . .

“As the rain and the snow come down from heaven, and do not return to it without watering the earth and making it bud and flourish so that it yields seed for the sower and bread for the eater, so is my Word that goes out from my mouth; It will not return to me empty, but will accomplish what I desire and achieve the purpose for which I sent it.” (verses 10-11).

Oh yes, this ministry of Bible teaching brings the bread, the Word that satisfies.

Each woman who leads as a servant and serves as a leader plays a part in making our time together each week one of being deeply satisfied.

  • A warm smile at the door brings a Word that satisfies
  • Music and words of worship bring a Word that satisfies
  • Coffee and conversation are a Word that satisfy
  • Teaching of God through His Word and your story satisfies our souls
  • Gently leading in prayer and discussion with an encouraging Word satisfy

I’m so grateful for the way the Spirit of God has taught me through this dry season in my soul. I’m excited to learn how He’s leading you and can’t wait to share stories of God’s goodness among our group this year. I’ll look for you on Tuesday Morning!

Let’s pray together for this new beginning . . .

Gentle Savior,  how we need Your touch in our lives, how we long for your Presence. And in that moment of longing, we are met in the way we need You most–by Your Word. Sometimes it’s in the reading of it, other times it’s in a tune or memory, often it’s through your people. You feed us and fill us and satisfy. May we live a grateful response. Oh yes!
